在社会上,经常会听到这样的说法,“哎呀,这样的人,他自作自受。”实际上,我们在生活中完全可以主动地去运用这个说法。
自作自受是自我内心的一种体验、一个受用。要是认为烦恼是社会带来的、环境带来的、他人给你带来的,那你就完全是被动的,就会很无奈,很容易迷失,没有办法去主动地运用当下。同样一个东西,我们真正了解了是自作自受,那主动权我们就掌握了——主动地来运用我们自己的身、口、意,使它变成一个福报。
被动一定是苦逼,一定会无奈。当我们认为苦逼是来自于社会、环境、他人,就会负不起责任。负不起责任,也就主动不起来。
了解这个现行是我们自身自作自受的,都是自心的择取罢了,就变得特别简单了。好比说心地择取了一个尊重,它的价值在运用尊重的过程中就会呈现出来。你运用尊重,它的作用就是尊重。同样的,你运用轻贱,那它的作用在你运用的时候就会同时体验出来。取用了含糊、似是而非的东西,那它就会似是而非地作用。
实际这就是取用这些作用。它是没有自性的,这一特点一定要清晰。缘生缘灭就是讲的万事万物的无自性性。
自作自受,也叫做心作心是。我们在原本清净的意识世界中,可以造作出一切美好的、自利利他的言说与作为,也可以造作出减损自己与他人的事情,是苦、是乐完全取决于自心的抉择。
明白这一点,我们就会对现行负起责任。主动负起责任就是福报。福报无需积累,在每个现行、每个当下主动运用的时候,自然就会显现出来。
What goes around, comes around
In society, a popular saying goes as such: “ Such a person, he is harvesting what he has sowed”. And actually, people can take the initiative to put this phrase in practice at all times.
“What goes around, comes around” is a kind of inner feeling or experience. If we blame the society or our environment as sources of our afflictions, then we will fall into a passive position, or feel overwhelmed and lost, with no choice to actively make use of our current actions. With regards for the same matter, the perspective of taking on the consequences of our deeds gives us an opportunity to take control over the steering wheel of our life — we can actively use our body, speech and mind to turn our troubles into a blessing.
On the contrary, if we are not proactive we will feel squeezed and hopeless. When we always think that our sufferings stem from society, environment and other people, we will never take our own responsibilities. As a result, we can never take the initiative.
It becomes very simple if we understand that what is happening at current moment is merely a consequence of our own actions or a choice of our own heart. For example, if we choose to re-spect people in our heart, the value of this choice will present itself when we are applying the respect. If we truly choose to follow a respectful heart, the very function that we experience is respect. Similarly, if we choose to belittle people, the function of contempt will show itself at that very moment. If we choose to be ambiguous or plausible, we will experience ambiguity or plausibility at the same time.
In fact we can choose different functions in our heart. But we must be clear that what we choose is void of any essence. Interdependent-arising and -ceasing of all things illustrates the fact that all phenomena have no Self.
“What goes around, comes around” can also be explained as “the world is a mirror of our heart”. In our primordial pure heart, we can create speech and deeds that are nice and can bene-fit others and ourselves, but we can also create things that hurt both sides. To be painful or joy-ful is up to the choice of our own heart.
Keeping this in mind, we can be responsible for our current behaviours. The initiative to take responsibility is the blessing. We don’t have to be obsessed with accumulating blessings. They will naturally come to us when we use our heart actively to make a right choice in every thing and in every current moment.
