Are You Mindful of the Buddha or the Habits While Chanting Buddha?
You get no benefit from Dharma practice, but more worries instead. The main reason is that you haven’t come to accept the right view, but recognize it habitually. The old habit is covered temporarily by Dharma practice. And sooner or later it will bounce back. Then you are very likely to complain that Dharma is no more than useless dogma, and even hold that worries come from Dharma practice, failing to realize that it is because you impose your worries habitually upon Dharma practice.
For example, a man is suffering from leg aching and he chants “Amitabha, Amitabha, Amitabha……” He will complain that after I have chanted so many times, why is my leg aching still there? Actually, what he is mindful of while chanting is his leg, but not Amitabha. Amitabha chanting will let your heart return to its inherent purity, and then you will understand that ‘aching’ is neither obtainable nor substantial, and your mind will not oppose the ‘aching’ any more, and at last your aching leg will rest itself and get recovered.
Actually, worries come from the retaining of the old habits in Buddha-chanting, but not from Buddha-chanting itself.
